What is VPMA Lobby Day at the Capitol?
This is going to be a pivotal legislative session. Following the November election and recent special elections, 21 Delegates—more than one-fifth of the House—will be new. You are our most effective resource to make a strong first impression, educate legislators about the healthcare issues, and ensure the voice of medicine stays front and center in policy decisions.
What's the schedule of events on our lobby day?
Please plan to join us from 7:30 a.m. until about 11:30 a.m. We will start with a brief organizational session and breakfast at St. Paul's Episcopal Church before going over to the General Assembly Building. Susan McConnell, Executive Director, will set up appointments with your legislators, where possible.
How should I prepare for our Lobby Day?
VPMA lobbyist, James Pickral, will provide background information for bills pertinent to our profession. Don't forget to bring your white coat to wear while lobbying and a supply of business cards to hand out to legislators and their aides.
Why should I leave behind my busy practice to come to Richmond to lobby?
Lobby Days are your opportunity to advocate for the issues that matter most to your profession. Members of the General Assembly need to hear from YOU, their constituents, about how the legislation the are considering will affect the practice of medicine.
